Inflatable Fishing Kayak Reviews K5, Colorado or Sea Eagle?

Kayaking is a pleasurable experience and provides thrills that few outdoor adventures can match, whether you do it by yourself or with your friends. Finding one online isn’t that hard, but it’s another thing to get your hands on a kayak that’s actually good and worthy of the waters.

That’s what inflatable fishing kayak reviews are for, to compare all the many online opinions and sort out the good and the bad for you. Today we’re going to get down and dirty with the Coleman Colorado, the Sevylor K5, the Sea Eagle 330 & Sea Eagle 370.

Size Comparison

Let’s start with a size comparison:

  • Colorado: 30.1 x 11.6 x 19.2 inches ; 37 pounds
  • The K5: 120 x 34.0 x 24.0 ; 24 pounds
  • The Eagle 330: 34 x 19 x 10 inches ; 44.2 pounds
  • The Eagle 370: 34 x 19 x 10 inches ; 44.2 pounds

In terms of size there’s really not much of a difference, and what is more telling and important is the weight, and here the K5 has the clear advantage in that it’s sleek and sexy at only 24 pounds. Even so, as any Coleman Colorado Kayak review can point out, that kayak is easy enough for a single person to handle, as are the two Sea Eagles included here. But if you’re after the lightest, the K5 has a distinct edge.

Price Online

Price comparison is as follows (at the time of this writing on Amazon):

The 330 is the most affordable of the four kayaks so if you are budget conscious this is a good option.

Design

Colorado
Let’s start with the Coleman Colorado, and one of the first things you’ll notice is that despite it being lightweight, the construction is solid. With a price tag of just under $400, we expect a solid kayak, and that’s what we get with its 18-gauge PVC. The K5 is built with a 600D polyester cover and that’s not bad either.

By comparison, the 330 is constructed from an extra-thick K-80 polykrylar hull that is puncture resistant, very important if you’re kayaking in rough waters and run into some serious rocks. The 370 is just as durable and maybe even more so, as its PolyKrylar hull can withstand dog claws and paws, perfect if you want to bring your favorite fishing buddy along (your dog, not uncle Jim with the nasty snaggle toenails).

Overall the Colorado offers the most durable design, and that’s to be expected given its price tag. Its build is meant for constant and heavy-duty use and is going to last a while so if you want the best this is your go-to option. That being said, the price can cause you to pull back, and if you’re looking for an affordable alternative any of the three will do.

While the 330, 370, and K5 are not made from the same material as the Colorado, they’re still high quality kayaks and worth a look. Even the Sea Eagle 330, which is the least expensive, is still a good buy and offers great value for your money.

Features Comparison

In Sea Eagle 330 vs 370 head-to-head comparisons, the biggest difference is the price, with the 370 more expensive by $84. However, there is a lot more to the two than just the price. Here’s a quick comparison:

Main 330 features:

  • The kayak can seat 2 people with a 500 lb. load capacity
  • Made from polykrylar material
  • The 330 features 9-inch tubes and is rated Class III whitewater
  • Comes with a carrying bag, foot pump, two oars, and front, and rear seats

SeaEagle370The 370 has all the features of the 330 plus a self-bailing drain valve, an NMMA-certified repair kit, and a pressure gauge. Also, it has room for 3 people and a maximum load capacity of 650 lbs. That’s even enough room to throw in your Pelican 20 QT cooler with your favorite cold beverages.

So the biggest difference between the two Sea Eagles is the capacity, as the 370 is larger. However, there are still two more kayaks here, the K5 and the Colorado.

As the most expensive of the four, the Colorado comes with several features that explain the price. Apart from being spacious and easy to navigate, the kayak is easy to set up and provides sufficient protection against punctures with its 840D nylon cover and 1000D tarpaulin bottom.

The Coleman Colorado also has several air chambers that enable another chamber to remain afloat if one gets punctured, a very convenient safety feature. The Colorado also has paddle holders that keep your paddles in place while being used.

Just like the Colorado and the Sea Eagles, there’s protection against punctures plus a couple of fishing rod holders are included if you just want to drop a line and relax.

In addition, the K5  has a storage compartment so you can store your gear and other stuff safely. And if you have other equipment, you can hang them on the D-rings.

When you consider the features, the Colorado leads the pack, and if you’re looking for the best that money can buy the Colorado is as good a choice as any. The Eagle 370 is not that far behind in terms of features though, and when it comes to value for your money you cannot go wrong with the K5 and the 330.

If you’re new to camping it’s probably best to start with the K5 or 330 as they’re easier on the wallet. If they don’t meet your requirements or you feel the need to upgrade later on, you can consider the 370. But if you’ve been camping a while and want more, the Colorado ought to be on your most wanted list.

The Verdict: Which Fishing Kayak Will You Choose?

If you search for blow-up kayak on Amazon you’re going to find the four kayaks we reviewed all receive favorable reviews, and choosing the best one isn’t going to be easy. As is almost always the case with kayaks, in the end, it’s really up to the individual to decide which one will suit your needs.

If you’re after the cheapest, the Sea Eagle is tops, but the Sevylor isn’t that far behind. While the Eagle 370 and the Coleman are more expensive, they’ve got the features to justify the additional cost.

The most important deciding factor of course is which one you see yourself using the most. It doesn’t matter if you are a competitive fisherman or simply want a good kayak to enjoy some time on the water with the kids these things are darn fun. And you’ll enjoy whichever one you decide to go with.

  • I’d never even thought about inflatable Kayak’s until I read this. I haven’t been kayaking for years, mostly because I live in an apartment and don’t have room to store a fibreglass Kayak.

  • Have to say the Colorado Kayak is the best here. A bit more expensive than the others but worth the investment in the long run.

  • Very nice reviews of these inflatable fishing kayaks! Actually I own a Sevylor K5 hot fish kayak. Honestly, I bought it because it’s less expensive than the other kayaks. My kids also loves to ride it on the water and that’s a very happy experience for me.
